Turning Jane takes a spin at Parts and Labor

I always tell people I’d rather take pics of a rising star at a small club than a famous star at a stadium. There’s an energy you get from a band like Turning Jane that knows they’re on the path to stardom and will travel lesser known roads to get there. Tonight was their final night on this leg of their tour and they played a stellar show at Melvindale’s Parts & Labor.

A couple local bands opened the show. Snapcat Bandits, a 2 piece, played a set of psychedelic, grunge rock that got the crowd up and moving. Mind Riot picked it up from there with a set of rock with a punk edge. Their covers of Blue Oyster Cult’s Godzilla and Queen’s “Stone Cold Crazy” were nice surprises.

Turning Jane, an all female band from Los Angeles, have been making a real buzz on the socials. It’s with good reason as their music is fantastic, grooving, pop punk that recalls greats like The Runaways and the Donnas. They played most of their set from their upcoming album, Queens of Hearts, which is full of catchy songs that really rock out. Then, they covered Republica’s 90’s anthem “Ready to Go” and closed the night with an amazing Zeppelin medley.
