Public Image Ltd. Roll Over Detroit As Only They Can

Public Image Ltd. played a righteous set at Detroit's St. Andrews Hall that in Johnny Lyon fashion both fell short and went beyond expectations. Before I get to them, Plague Vendor opened the show with a powerful and unrestrained set of punk. Singer, Brendon Blaine, channeled his inner-Iggy as he climbed around the crowd and stage raging through their songs.

Johnny Lydon and Public Image Ltd. were in fine form last night, taking to the stage with "Home" from the generic PiL album. Their set was interesting for both what it contained and what it lacked. They played hypnotic versions of early tracks "Poptones" and "Death Disco." "Poptones" featured Johnny switching the words for ad libs that included the Doors "Roadhouse Blues." They played non-PiL tracks. "World Destruction" and "Open Up". Unfortunately, they left off some of their greats like "Seattle," "Bad Life," and "Flowers of Romance". By the end, they played an extended version of "Rise" that left the sold out crowd enthralled and satisfied with what they got.
