PREVIEW: L7 Makes Stop on Farewell Tour in Detroit on Halloween
The first leg of the legendary Los Angeles-based feminist rock group L7 kicked off in San Diego on October 6. With the tragic passing of founding member Jennifer Finch, “The Last Hurrah” Tour marks the end of the band’s 40+ span. Fellow founding members Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner, as well as former member Janis Tanaka, will carry on the band into its final chapter, bringing 4 decades of punk, heavy grunge, and socio-political power to venues across the country. Prior to her passing to an aggressive form of brain cancer, Finch had given the band her blessing to carry on. L7 embarks on an almost 30 stop tour, with shows almost every day until going home to LA on November 14.
The band’s latest single, “loma Linda,” released. The demo for this song was originally recorded in 2003, but with Janis Tanaka, the song was Officially release this past week.
Donita Sparks shares, “This new single marks the return of Janis Tanaka being back in L7 on bass after the sadness of losing Jennifer Finch a couple of months ago.
I was searching the band’s archives and came across this unfinished track from when Janis was in the band. It still sounded rather fresh and very L7 so we recorded new vocals with new lyrics and some other additional tracks and cranked it out in a couple of days ahead of this upcoming tour.
Gotta warn ya, we dig it and hope you do too.”
L7 makes 2 stops in Michigan, October 30 in Grand Rapids’ Big Room and Halloween in Detroit at St. Andrew’s Hall.
