The SoapGirls Break Boundaries at Smalls

This was the first time the SoapGirls played Detroit and they made sure to give it their all. Opening the show was the debut of local band, the Dead Bloom, a very interesting band that played a confident set of punk. The guitarist at times reminded me of Greg Ginn in the mid-phase of Black Flag (Slip It in, Loose nut). The always memorable Choking Susan played next with new material and some of their favorites. The SoapGirls finished the night with a set that had everything and more. They started their set with the poppier side of their punk and ended it with their very heavy, hard hitting songs. In between they charmed the crowd with talk about embracing your true self and being accepting of others. If you want to read more about the SoapGirls be sure to read our Soap Girls interview.
