It's a Psychedelic Freakout with the Black Angels and LA Witch at St. Andrews Hall

Maybe it's something in the air, psychedelic rock bands always bring a unique atmosphere to their shows. Tuesday's show with the Black Angels and LA Witch brought that atmosphere and a whole lot more to St. Andrews Hall. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal release, Passover, The Black Angels, showed why that album is a timeless masterpiece. LA Witch opened the show with their own set of dark psychedelia. Singer/guitarist, Sade Sanchez, did some nice guitar work while her bandmates provided a steady backbeat. The Black Angels took the stage and presented the crowd with a fine set of perfect contradictions. Their sound was chaotic but also finely tuned. All of the  elements coming together in a perfect blend of dense, thick, throbbing rock. Their presence was cinematic with heavy shadows and flickers of light letting you see just enough of the band. The crowd which seemed to grow and fill out the hall throughout the night, cheered, danced and swayed along to the Black Angels as they played a set everyone had heard before but it came across with the astonishment of the first time hearing it.
